On Wednesday, February 14th, I had the honor of being invited by the All Human Alliance to make a presentation on gender-affirming care and transition. The presentation was titled, “Dispelling Myths: The Truth about Gender-Affirming Care and Transition.”
This presentation centered around misinformation and lies found in both HB 68 and the Legislative Analysis of HB 68 (The Gender-Affirming Care Ban). The presentation was purposefully brief, leaving most of the time for questions from the audience. As a transgender person, in the public eye, I have opened myself up to various questions, but I always include the stipulation that every trans person you meet shouldn’t be forced into a Q & A session.
The public participation aspect is very important to me, because I can’t necessarily know what others don’t, or what misinformation they may believe, unless they ask the questions. One of the most important bits of misinformation was to clarify that HB 68 doesn’t “protect” youth from gender-confirmation surgery, because such surgeries weren’t happening in the first place.
Out of the hundreds of submitted or live testimony presented before the state legislature, the legislature could find zero examples of such surgeries in the state of Ohio.
My campaign and I are open to making this presentation again, in the future.
The powerpoint slides are included at the bottom of this article.
